young life!!

i'm laying on a comfortable couch in the sharptop assigned team house with the k-state gamecast running, pretending to be a yl staff wife...life is pretty great! ricky's doing program with tim this weekend...tag team champs! they've been doing a great job!
it's kind of strange to come to a camp where i only know a hanful of people after our time at lost canyon and all my yl camping experiences in the past! at camp, i've become so used to being in a room full of people i know and love, maybe having to learn one or two names, but i've had to hand that role to ricky this weekend! it's strange to not know the young life community here, but i know that will soon be a thing of the past.

ricky and i have been hanging out with one of his former young life leaders, who is now the area director of cherokee county, which is the county we live in, and we're really thinking and praying about being volunteer leaders. there is just something about young life that we are just intrinsically drawn to (big word, right?)...i don't know of a better way to reach lost and hurting high school kids. it just looks like Jesus. and i don't know if i'll even be able to be involved in two similar ministries at the same time between my job and yl...or if i could do that with excellence, lots to think and pray about!

for now we're just ready for a break and SO pumped to come to kansas city for ricky's first bram fam thanksgiving!! can't wait to see y'all...i'll try to have an accent by tuesday night! and hunter wishes he could come!

babies

i've noticed that more and more pictures of precious babies have been popping up on facebook, and i admit that i look at them ALL. i love babies. they are so stinking cute and it's so cool how they develop their personalities. but we are SO glad we're not in that stage of life yet!! i mean, God gets the ultimate decision on when these things happen, but we hope it will be a while longer! i love being young and newly married. i love that we get to spend so much time together. and i love hunter, but he's about as much extra responsibility as i would like right now! we are excited to have a family...someday. but the best part of right now is when your friends start having babies, you can hold them as long as you want...and then give them back!

mr. jones and me

ricky and i went to see the counting crows on wednesday, who happen to be my absolute favorite band. we were sitting on the lawn with my cool zip up blanket my mom got me and this guy came up to us and traded us our lawn tickets for seats! so we got to move closer and get out of the wind, which was awesome. and it was a great show. even though you can smell the drugs and the band is yelling stuff like eff you christmas...i just think there's something very spiritual about live music. it was a cool reminder that God really is everywhere, and he will speak through whoever/whatever he wants. adam duritz said a couple of things that are so full of truth:

1. somebody out there gives a ____ about you

2. you can have absolutely everything and absolutely nothing at the same time

and while this certainly wasn't said by a minister and it certainly wasn't in a church...God will use anybody anywhere, and i love that.

reloaded

i had my first big event with johnson ferry yesterday! it was a LONG day, but so fun and worth it! we had 526 students there for some back-to-school fun, worship, and a chance to win an ipod touch. it was funny to see 6th graders and 12th graders in the same room. middle school kids are CRAZY, this is going to be fun! i'm having a blast in the youth house, too, there's always something going on. it reminds me of the lost canyon office...always one of my favorite places to hang out at camp! and we're going to sharptop in january, i'm excited to get my young life fix...i don't think the addiction will ever leave me :).

and libby comes to visit this weekend!

great news!

i finally have a j-o-b!! God's timing is ridiculously perfect as always. the whole job search was a pretty miserable experience. i felt like there was just nothing out there for me and i was getting so tired of searching jobsites and fruitless interviews. just when i was really starting to lose hope (and all our money!), i found the perfect job! i'm going to be the middle school ministry assistant at johnson ferry baptist church in marietta! ricky and i have been going there lately and they have awesome student ministry, it seems very similar to young life. and middle school kids? never saw that one coming, but it will be a new adventure! i'll be doing a lot of administrative work, but also a lot of work with the other folks in the youth house and kids and i'll be doing some trips with them, too. thanks for all your prayers, we are SO pumped!
